It’s a Full Moon

Happy FunDay!

Ghostly Encounters

This has got to be my favorite color-along so far!  Anything to do with Halloween, ghosts, the paranormal, I am ready and eager to participate.  Apparently, even as a toddler I loved anything spooky.  My mother would tell me about how she would put me to bed in my crib on a nice summer evening, then go outside to enjoy the weather and relax.  When she would come in to check on me, she would find me out of my crib, in front of the television, watching Dark Shadows

For those of you younger readers, Dark Shadows was a nighttime soap opera that had a creepy vibe.

Dark Shadows is an American gothic soap opera that aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971. The show depicted the lives, loves, trials, and tribulations of the wealthy Collins family of Collinsport, Maine, where a number of supernatural occurrences take place.

This series became popular when vampire Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) appeared ten months into its run. It would also feature ghosts, werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel, and a parallel universe.

My all-time favorite Saturday morning cartoon growing up was Scooby Doo.  And if there was anything scary on other TV shows, I made sure I was there to watch it (no DVRs in those days.)

In grade school, I went through the card catalog and found everything that they had in the library about ghosts and the paranormal.  These topics were not very popular in the 1970’s, so there wasn’t too much available in those days.

And my favorite ghost story and picture back then was that of the “The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall”. One of the most famous “ghosts” caught on camera

This portrait of “The Brown Lady” ghost is arguably the most famous and well-regarded ghost photograph ever taken. The ghost is thought to be that of Lady Dorothy Townshend, wife of Charles Townshend, second Viscount of Raynham, residents of Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England in the early 1700s.  Dorothy’s ghost is said to haunt the oak staircase and other areas of Raynham Hall.

This famous photo was taken in September 1936 by Captain Provand and Indre Shira, two photographers who were assigned to photograph Raynham Hall for Country Life magazine.

Even to this day, I love a good old-fashioned ghost story.  That is why I chose this picture for us to color to celebrate the Halloween season.

I found this beautiful artwork on Etsy at the DavidsonColoringArt store.  They have a lot of extraordinary and beautiful artwork that deal with Fantasy and Steampunk Fine Art Coloring for Adults.  There are faeries, mermaids, pirates, vintage steampunk and of course, ghostly drawings.  There are so many stunning pictures I would love to color; in fact, I did purchase two more for future color-alongs.  Stay tuned for those upcoming videos!

Since this a large and detailed picture, it will take us longer than the two weeks I had previously done with our first two color-along pages.  I am guessing it will take between three and four weeks to complete.  So, check back here to get the details on that weekend’s coloring and updated color chart.

I am also thinking that since I am becoming a little more advanced in my coloring techniques, we will start moving to these more complex coloring pages, featuring the wonderful artwork by some of the great artists out there on Etsy.  As you know, I prefer single print-out coloring pages, that way I can select exactly what I want to color and print out on paper of my own choosing.  Plus, these single pages aren’t that expensive, and you can re-print and color them anytime you want.

For now, let’s kick-off this ghostly graveyard with the moon and the clouds.  Check back tomorrow as we start on the cemetery with the mausoleums and headstones.
